The client challenged Bridgewater Studio to CNC engineer a regular car into an animal-themed prop for a TV commercial as part of the Mixed-Up Lunchables® experiential marketing campaign. Bridgewater Studio was able to design, fabricate and install all necessary components in-house on an accelerated timeline for a total project time of 9 days (only 2 of which were spent in previsualization phase).
The first step was to gut the car while digital sculptors began 3D modeling the platypus bill, antlers, rabbit ears and tail, which were fabricated with CNC carving. Meanwhile, our lighting designer integrated LED lighting, fog lights, headlights, and undercarriage lightshow effects, after which the CNC-carved animal parts were assembled onto the frame using CNC foam sculpting with an in-house KUKA robot. With the CNC robotics stage complete, the car was upholstered and ready for commercial debut!
