Immersive Experience

Science of Speed at Kamin Science Center brings a host of thrilling experiences together under one roof: from go-kart racing and driving simulators to hands-on science, artifacts, dining, and entertainment. Bridgewater Studio designed and produced the educational experience woven throughout the space, creating exhibits, interactives, media, and immersive environments that give racing fans, science enthusiasts, and families a variety of ways to engage.

The Challenge

Bringing multiple experiences together into one cohesive guest journey required careful planning from the start. Adding to that complexity, the go-kart track and other components were being developed in parallel, meaning layouts, structural elements, and available footprints continued to evolve throughout the process. Our team needed to design an educational experience that could adapt alongside those changes while ensuring the finished space felt intentional, connected, and seamless for visitors.

Strategy

We focused on using science and storytelling to connect the many ways visitors could experience the space. Working alongside the Kamin team, Kart One, and other project partners, Bridgewater developed content around aerodynamics, reaction time, safety, engineering, and teamwork. The goal was to make each element engaging on its own while creating connections between the hands-on exhibits, artifacts, simulators, and racing experience, so every visitor could have a different path into the story.

Design

Detailed 3D modeling allowed us to design and adjust exhibits as the space around them evolved. Custom interactives let visitors test reaction times, explore the physical forces of steering, compare aerodynamics in a simulated wind tunnel, and discover careers in the racing industry. Artifacts, media, graphics, and reader rails add context throughout, creating a story-driven environment where the science of racing can be explored from multiple perspectives.

Production

Our in-house fabrication team brought the experience to life through carpentry, laser-cut metalwork, graphics, electronics, programming, 3D printing, and finishing. Chassis-inspired frameworks and racing graphics helped create a cohesive visual language, while durable materials and finishes were selected for the high-traffic environment. As always, constant coordination with our own design, engineering, technology, and installation teams made for a streamlined production process and exceptional results.
